The Wakefield Farmers Market, at Wakefield Park in Annandale, will open for the season on May 27, the Fairfax County Park Authority announced May 22.
The farmers market program has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Wakefield market, at 8100 Braddock Road, will be open on Wednesdays 2-6 p.m. Next week, the market is expected to have locally grown corn, tomatoes, potatoes, peaches, sugar snap peas, and other produce, as well as baked goods.
Customers will find new procedures this year. When possible, shoppers are asked to pre-order items directly from the vendors, although the county has not yet issued a list of vendors at the Wakefield market.
On site, customers are asked to comply with all COVID-19 safety procedures, including limiting shoppers to two persons per household, wearing facial coverings, and maintaining six feet of distance from others. Pre-ordering and streamlined payment and pickup options should help shoppers keep their visits relatively brief.
The Wakefield market is the fourth of the county’s 10 farmer markets to open this year. The market in Lorton will open May 31. There’s no word on when, or if, the Annandale Farmers Market at Mason District Park will open.
