The Fairfax County Park Authority Board approved the installation of a new playground at Wakefield Park in Annandale. The project will cost $100,000. Funding will come from a park bond passed by voters in 2016.

The funds approved by the Park Board will cover the design and layout of replacement equipment, demolition of the existing equipment, installation of the new playground, a safety surface, subsurface drainage, and new perimeter fence. Construction is slated to begin in the second quarter of the year.

“Although the equipment at Wakefield Park has been repaired since its original installation in 1994, it has now exceeded its life expectancy and no longer meets current playground safety guidelines,” the Park Authority states.
