Wakefield pedestrian bridge to close Monday
Fairfax County Supervisor John Cook (Braddock District) reports that the Wakefield Park pedestrian bridge in Annandale will close for about four days, beginning on or about Sept. 13, by construction crews working on the beltway HOT lanes project.
The existing bridge will be raised approximately two feet and extended 30 feet to the west, Cook says. A new access ramp is also being built on the outer loop side of the beltway. Once the temporary ramp structure is repositioned, the bridge will reopen to bike riders and walkers, with the permanent access ramp scheduled for completion and ready for service on Oct. 10.
Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicyling had complained in August when the bridge was closed without warning.
