Watch out for daytime break-ins

Residents of Sleepy Hollow Woods are reporting at least three break-ins over the past couple of days. One resident saw a white van with green lettering parked nearby for several days. While she was out for an hour and a-half in the middle of the day on Oct. 30, someone broke a lock to the laundry room, rummaged through drawers and closets and took some cash from a desk.

In a separate incident, someone stole large inflatable Halloween decorations from a front yard in Broyhill Crest, including a black cat, witch, Pac Man pumpkin, and Winnie the Pooh dressed as Dracula.

  1. OK, neighbors, think about joining your Neighborhood Watch patrol! Broyhill Crest drivers are out during the daytime…only takes one day per month. Check our directory for who to call.

  2. Well, this is topical. We were broken into TODAY. The kicked in the back, basement door, went through medicine cabinets and dresser drawers. It must have happened about 11 am. We live on Donna Lane in Broyhill Crest.

  3. Great! A mile from the police station and still we have random daytime crime. Would I get in trouble if I shot someone breaking into my home? Not sure what the law is so if anyone can enlighten me I'd appreciate it.

  4. Invitations to neighbors…Tues., Nov. 5, 7:30 pm, in main community mtg room at Mason Dist Police Station/Govt Ctr…Citizens Advisory Committee meeting open to public. Agenda always includes a question-answer time after hearing from command staff about recent happenings in our area. Also, at 6:30 pm, training for anyone interested in joining their neighborhood watch patrol…learn about it, help out. Hope to see others there.

  5. A reader reports a break-in Nov. 1, 11:30 a.m., on Donna Lane in Broyhill Crest. The basement door was kicked in.

  6. Sadly, more houses have had break-ins since Nov. 1. Keep doors/windows securely locked, lights on and report any suspicious persons or happenings to police immediately.
