A water main break on eastbound Columbia Pike between Madison Lane and Tyler Street caused major traffic headaches during the morning rush hour on Dec. 30.
The Fairfax County Police Department called the road “unstable and buckling” and closed that part of Columbia Pike for several hours while workers with Fairfax Water made repairs to the 16-inch water main. Initially, Fairfax Water predicted it would take 24 hours, but the repairs were done and the road was reopened by 2 p.m.
I would just like to say the Fairfax County Police Dept did an Excellent job in handling this situation. They re-routed traffic so that the traffic flowed and even put up stop signs in places to allow traffic out of the side streets. They did a remarkable job on such a short notice.Thank you! I also would like to thank Fairfax Water for also doing an excellent job in re-routing the water while they were working so the cut-off time was very very short.Jobs well done!
A fish kill was reported yesterday about a fish kill in Holmes Run to include trout and minnows. Perhaps this spill is responsible.
