Members of the Waterford Weavers Guild demonstrated textile
craft at an open house at the Artisans United Craft Gallery March 7. The
gallery, at 4011C Hummer Road in Annandale, not only has a shop with
high-quality items made by the region’s top artisans, but also occasionally hosts
public receptions and demonstrations presented by one of the 10 craft guilds featured
at the gallery.
The Waterford Weavers Guild, founded in 1973, promotes the
fiber arts, such as weaving, spinning, dyeing, knitting, and crocheting. Works
by guild members, including hats, ponchos, jackets, scarves, blankets, table
linens, and wall hangings, will be on display at the Craft Gallery throughout
March and April.
The next open house, the first Saturday in May, will
commemorate “the special people in our lives” and will feature items for Mother’s
Day, Father’s Day, brides, and graduates, said Karen Bowes, of the United
Artisans Craft Gallery.
