Weekend crime recap includes robbery at Annandale Safeway
There was a robbery at the Safeway at 7414 Little River Turnpike just before 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 21. A man entered the store, approached an employee at a register, and took cash.
The suspect assaulted another employee as he fled. Neither victim required medical attention. He was described as white, 40 to 45 years old, about 6 feet tall, and wearing a black jacket and pants.
The Shell station at 5757 Seminary Road in Bailey’s Crossroads was robbed at around 8:25 a.m. on Oct. 21. Two men entered the business, displayed a handgun, demanded cash from an employee, and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
They were described as black and about 30 to 35 years old. One suspect was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and heavy set, with a beard. He wore a blue shirt and pants. The other was clean-shaven, with short hair, about 6 feet 1 inch tall, with a thin build and was wearing a white T-shirt.
On Oct. 23, police responded to reports of an emotionally disturbed man experiencing a mental crisis at his home in the Parliaments on the 7400 block of Eastmoreland Road, Annandale, at about 8:30 a.m. The man, age 43, was holding a large knife and was striking the floor and walls. An officer was able to talk to the man through a neighbor’s balcony and convinced him to exit the home. The man complied and was transported to a mental health facility for evaluation and care. He was not injured.
There was a burglary at the Joong Mi Korean/Chinese restaurant at 7630 Little River Turnpike, Annandale between 2 and 2:35 a.m. on Oct. 21. Cash was reported missing.
Police arrested a teenage boy for assaulting a police officer at about 1:42 a.m. Oct. 23 on the 5800 block of Columbia Pike in Bailey’s Crossroads. Offices responded to a report of a youth acting drunk and disorderly. When they attempted to take him into custody, the suspect resisted and spit on an officer. He was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, pending further charges.
