What’s up with this unoccupied cop car?
Anyone else notice a vacant cop car on Ravensworth Road near
St. Michael’s Lane for the past few days? It’s most likely a “ghost cruiser,”
says Fairfax County police officer Roger Henriquez.

It’s there because “there’s a high amount of speeding on that
road, and when people see a police cruiser, they tend to slow down,” he says.
Ghost cruisers are one tactic used by the police to combat speeding, although
they can’t stay in the same spot too long, because people catch on.

If they increased the number of pot holes a ghost cruiser would not be needed. Take Annandale rd between Gallows and Rt50, speed limit is 35 but normal traffic does 15-25 in most spots.
Maybe that was part of the Penny Plan?
Maybe you'll want to revisit this blog post from 2+ weeks ago: http://annandaleva.blogspot.com/2015/03/repaving-bike-lanes-planned-for-mason.html. Read the first sentence. I expect you'll approve of everything…except that Penny was involved.
To be fair, I think the weather has been too unpredictable and too cold to begin the seasonal repair of roads; hopefully it will be taken care of soon.
That stretch of road is THE worst for potholes, so that's a good idea. Just mess the roads up so bad, that nobody CAN speed. As for the 'ghost cruiser', it's annoying more than anything else. Why can THEY park wherever they want. Be sure that if anyone else parked there, they'd be ticketed/towed zippity-quick. I'm ready to get out of the dale.
i have to agree with gfy. cops think they are above the law….let me park my car there and see what happens. this is not a case where they are actively enforcing the law…this is the case of an abandoned vehicle!
Oh for crying out loud. There is very little parking enforcement in Annandale. Go to DC, go to Arlington – they enforce parking laws with an iron fist. It is much more relaxed here.
Are you kidding above the law? They put their lives on the line for your life everyday and they are not parking there they are trying to slow people down. I see nothing wrong with this idea.
They need to park a car on every secondary highway in FFX and I doubt they would have enough cruisers given that they depend more on helicopters.
The "Slow Down" signs that the county distributed have been a total waste, its as if the drivers read it as "Speed Up."
County needs to get more serious about speeding. The Digital Electronic signs seem to work best as I have observed in Arlington and Alexandria where they take public safety seriously and find the funds for it.
Arlington: Shangri-la. Happens to have the second highest tax burden in the US.

Is this what Mollie plans for Mason District?
You must have no idea what Mollie has done for the Mason District to make a comment like that. Let me also add that everything she has done is ALL VOLUNTEER work to make our community a better place.
Does anyone else find it a tad annoying that news casters (and now, apparently, news bloggers) are referring to the police as "cops"? I know the English language is a dynamic thing, and that reporters want to appeal to a younger audience, etc., but it still sounds odd to me–too informal.
There's no shortage of potholes ever in the DC area due to the freeze and thaw cycles during winter months & our super heavy volume of traffic. There are also tons of families and pets in the area & anything that makes drivers adhere to speed limits is a plus. I agree that the electronic signs that flash your speed are effective–at least they work on me When I drive thru Falls Church! But empty cop–I mean Police–cars do the trick also.
