Wilson Library reopens March 21

The newly renovated Woodrow Wilson Library will reopen March 21 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. followed by a series of children’s entertainment and craft activities.

Opening-day festivities include a lion and dragon dance at 11:30 a.m. featuring Au and Thieu doan Trung Vuong Girl Scout Troop 2016 and a puppet show at 3 p.m. The Kaydee Puppets will present “The Little Red Hen’s Wacky Week” and “The Lion and Mouse Fable,” sponsored by the Fairfax Library Foundation.

The library, at 6101 Knollwood Drive, Bailey’s Crossroads, underwent a $3.68 million renovation and expansion. The changes include more space for community meetings and more computers for public use.

  1. I agree. It is a beautiful building.

However, I am saddened whenever I drive by.

This redo was a lost opportunity for Bailey's Elementary. A second story with classrooms in partnership with the Wilson Library would have maximized taxpayer resources and provided an optimal solution for the overcrowding at Bailey's, including a playground. Instead the children were separated from friends and siblings and put in a retrofitted office building with no gym, no playground in a commercial area on a busy street.

Mason District must start making better use of our tax dollars. We are not deep pockets to continue building one story government buildings or palaces for county offices as is planned for the Willston School.

Partnering schools with libraries would be wise use of resources. Let's see more creativity in the future.
