Wine tastings at Hidden Oaks Nature Center
My friend, Jill Anderson, of the Lake Barcroft blog, reports on an upcoming series of wine tastings this winter at the Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Faced the with prospect of draconian budget cuts, the Fairfax County Parks must come up with creative ways to raise revenue.
Hidden Oaks, located off Hummer Road in between Gallows and Little River Turnpike, is one of Annandale’s hidden gems. The six Saturday evening wine events feature Dan Roninson, wine/spirits educator, at Total Wine in Alexandria. Each session is $30 and is limited to 30 people. They are all 7-9 p.m.
Here is the schedule:
Dec. 19–Basics of Wine Tasting
Jan. 9, 2010–East vs. West Coast Wines
Jan. 23–Great Local Buys from Faraway Places
Feb. 6–Local Vineyards
Feb. 20–Hearty Winter Reds and Light Reds for Spring
March 6–The Great White Wines
The wine tastings are sponsored by Friends of Hidden Oaks Nature Center, and the proceeds will support environmental education programs. You must register and pay in advance. Send checks to FONONC, 7701 Royce Street, Annandale, Va. 22003. For more information, contact Kevin Holland at [email protected] or call the nature center, 703/941-1065.
