Woman finds stolen car, with thief in it

Today’s police blotter includes a couple of strange incidents. A local woman received a notice from her bank on the evening of Aug. 26 stating that her debit card was used at a nearby gas station. While driving to the gas station, she saw her car in the 3400 block of Spring Lane, which had been stolen in Arlington on Aug. 12, with a man sitting in it.

When Fairfax County police officers arrived, they took the man into custody. Yonatan Desta, 38, of Arlington, was arrested and charged with credit card theft, grand larceny, auto theft, forgery, credit card forgery, credit card fraud, and possession of marijuana.

On Aug. 25, a woman reported that a man whom she didn’t know walked into her home in the 5200 block of Montgomery Street in Springfield after she opened the front door at about 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 25. Officers found the man sitting in her kitchen and arrested him. Mauricio Hernandez-Zuniga, 22, of Alexandria was arrested and charged with unlawful entry.
