  1. Let’s not miss the several positives here:

    1) The ATM customer was not injured;
    2) No one was injured by over-zealous police;
    3) The bank still has its money; and
    4) Annandale’s reputation remains intact.

  2. Right by fairmont gardens. This is where the dollar store and Safeway is. Drug dealing happens all day long and people hang out in the parking lot. I would never use that atm at any time of day.

  3. One of the commenters stated that “Annandale’s reputation remains intact”. I completely disagree. Each and every one of these incidents will steadily erode away confidence in the safety of Annandale. We shouldn’t be complacent. More measures need to be put in place to actually catch criminals like these and remove them from the streets.

  4. Always be aware of your surrounding environment. Most likely the robbers were waiting close by for a victim to show up. If they have a car, they would be parking in the bank’s parking lot, where there should be nobody at that time. If they don’t have a car, they’ll be loitering nearby. Best to get your cash inside the bank, or a store, or use a drive-by.

  5. Some times people have needs, perhaps she was going to work, or traveling, or her family needed to take care of an expense. The norm should be NO CRIME, NO ROBBERY. Unbelievable how judgemental people can be. Agreed with the person that said that the positive thing, is that she is safe and uninjured, she gets to go back to her family.

    1. So glad someone called out the judgmental responses here for their “blaming the victim” attitude. It shouldn’t make any difference what time of the day a person uses an ATM in a well-ordered community, which apparently is not the case here in Annandale.

  6. My dad visited the ATM during LUNCHTIME (around independence day) and someone jumped in front of his car and asked him for some money (for lunch). My dad gave him a dollar, but what if the person wanted to take things further? I think security outside the bank needs to be ramped up. Then again, there is so much we can do before things become too much. Slippery slope it is. I agree with others who advise for common sense – but if it’s possible to approach people using the ATM randomly during lunchtime, we need to consider the alternatives.

  7. That area is a rat’s nest. I never go near the place anymore. I used to go to Safeway — Murders, drugs, nasty places. The FCPD needs to clean that area up.
