Scenes from “Wonder Woman 2” will be filmed at the
now-closed Landmark Mall in Alexandra this summer, the Washington Business Journal reports.

The film, a sequel to the blockbuster 2017 movie about an
Amazonian princess turned super hero, will be set in the 1980s, making the
obsolete mall a great location.

Andy Edmonds, director of the Virginia Film Office, which helps movie and
TV production companies use locations in the state, declined to comment, citing
confidentiality issues. “Whenever a movie comes into the region its great for the local economy,” he said.

The City of Alexandria is working with the Howard Hughes
Corp. on a plan to transform the mall into a mixed-use town center. The company has delayed its plans as it is negotiating to acquire the Sears property, says Maya Contreras of the Alexandria Department of Planning and Zoning.

Meanwhile, the Carpenter’s Shelter is moving into a portion of the former Macys store, while its building is being renovated. The temporary shelter is expected to open this summer.

  1. If you think working as an extra on a film like Wonder Woman II sounds like fun, there's a web site in DC that has information on what sort of people the production company needs for roles as extras and background actors. The site is called DragonukConnects and you will have to join (it's free) to see the job listings. Go to https://dragonukconnects.com. Just ignore the requests to get a paid membership and get a free membership.

Typically, extra and background roles pay minimum wage or a bit more. They give you food while you are on set, but not the really fancy stuff. In my experience, you get paid fairly quickly — in a couple of weeks, usually.

A successful extra comes prepared, is quiet, listens to what is said and does what s/he is told. If you walk up to the lead actors or the director and try to chat, you will be fired.

I've now worked as an extra on three TV shows that are shot in the region, including a stint yesterday on a "popular political drama" that is shot in Baltimore.
