Work begins on assisted living facility on Gallows Road

The site plan shows an entrance to the property on Gallows Road.

Site preparation
work on the 94-unit Brightview senior living facility on Gallows Road across
from the Holmes Run Pool is starting imminently, reports Andrew Teeters, vice president
of Shelter Development.

The
project was approved by the Board of Supervisors in spring 2013. Shelter
Development completed the purchase of the property earlier this month. Five
houses, all of them formerly rentals and currently vacant, will be demolished.

According
to Teeters, construction should take about 16 months and the building should be
ready for occupancy by the end of 2015 or early 2016. Shelter Development will begin
marketing the project in early 2015. It will have mix of studio, one-bedroom,
and two-bedroom units. Rents haven’t been established yet.

  1. Hmmm, this does not look or sound good to me! Did the area residents not fight this? What was their input?

  2. What's your problem? Places like this are everywhere around here, if you bother to kook around, and the demand is growing. At least this one seems artfully screened from the road and the residents probably won't be texting whilst roaring out of the driveway. Grow up!

  3. I would think that the neighbors would welcome this kind of development, rather than abandoned or rental houses. There is no impact on the schools (which is often a complaint). Less impact on traffic than a traditional apartment development, generally quiet neighbors and construction will be completed pretty quickly. Sounds like a win-win to me.

  4. So near a school could create wonderful programs between schoolchildren and seniors. And these developments are usually beautifully landscaped and well maintained.
