You can be part of the InOut Cube art installation in Seven Corners

Here’s your chance to have your face projected on a giant glowing cube visible to traffic at the Seven Corners Route7/Route 50 intersection: Come by the InOut interactive public art installation in front of the Bank of America branch on Saturday evening and have one of the artists from the surcreative team take your portrait and incorporate it into the cube.

Artists from surcreative will be at the InOut Cube every Saturday, 7-8 p.m., over the next four weeks. Can’t make it in person? Submit your photo via Twitter to @INOUT7C.

The InOut Cube is part of Imagine Art Here series spearheaded by Arts Fairfax. “I’m so excited about art in in Seven Corners,” said Suzie Bissell of McLean, a member of the Arts Fairfax board, who had her photo taken for the Cube on May 26.

InOut also includes a six-question online survey about public art and community. Three of the questions are printed on the Cube itself, and people select a response by pulling off a sticker they can keep. Those questions are: Where is home to you? What are you doing in Seven Corners today? and What makes you feel creative?

About 100 people have taken the survey so far, said Lisa Mariam of Arts Fairfax. The goal is to get 500 responses by the time the project ends on June 23.

Three sides of the Cube have questions people can answer by pulling off stickers.

The 8 by 8-foot Cube consists of a wooden structure covered in graphic-printed acrylic, says Hector Montalvo of surcreative. There is a projector inside and solar panels on top.

While the cube’s location (6307 Arlington Blvd.) doesn’t get a lot of foot traffic, it gets plenty of visibility, especially from cars exiting Route 50 eastbound onto Route 7.
