$1 million lottery ticket sold at Lee’s Sandwiches
Carlos Gutierrez of Centreville stopped by Lee’s Sandwiches on Annandale Road in the Falls Church area of Mason District on the way to work on Oct. 9, the Virginia Lottery reports. While waiting for his chicken sandwich and coffee, he bought a lottery ticket for the Powerball lottery, which had a jackpot of an estimated $1.55 billion.
When he stopped at Lee’s the next day, the store was buzzing with excitement as the Virginia Lottery has announced someone had bought a ticket there worth $1 million.
“Maybe it’s me,” Mr. Gutierrez thought. He was right.
His winning ticket matched the first five numbers to win the million-dollar prize. The winning numbers were 16-34-46-55-67. The Powerball number was 14. Gutierrez said he initially picked 14 but at the last minute changed his Powerball number to 19. If he had stuck with 14, he would have won over $1.5 billion. Gutierrez, a small business owner, plans to use part of his winnings to expand his business.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million. The overall odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 25.
