Pedestrian struck on John Marr Drive has died

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Annandale last week has died, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.
Sun Hyo Kim, 56, of Annandale, was crossing John Marr Drive between Backlick Road and Ravensworth Road shortly after 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 when she was struck by a westbound 2012 BMW.
Kim was transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition and was later pronounced deceased.
The driver of the BMW was uninjured and remained at the scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the police. Speed remains under investigation.

Was she in a crosswalk?
Probably not. In my experience, pedestrians will not use a crosswalk even if one is 20 feet away. Public education should include how and why to obey laws, follow police instructions, use your signal when driving, use crosswalks. It sounds so basic but we are drifting away from common sense and respect for strangers in public.
Instead we are going the other direction… teaching kids to follow only the laws they agree with, denigrating police, legalizing jaywalking, and putting political zealots in place who hire police chiefs who direct their officers to decrease law enforcement. Panhandling used to be illegal.
Now groups of homeless divide and conquer major intersections – they jaywalk to the median and harass everyone sitting at a red light. I avoid local convenience stores because aggressive transients hold the door open and then demand money and swear at people if they don’t give anything. Three major stabbings in the last two weeks. Local news scrubs politically incorrect details.
I remember when people would drive 55 mph on Hwy 66 and there were state troopers sitting in the median, just waiting to pull people over for infractions. Nowadays, I watch cops completely ignore cars that are 20 mph over the speed limit, weaving in and out of traffic. I don’t blame the cops because their hands are tied. We are slowly but surely spiraling in the wrong direction. I wonder if it stops. Not holding my breath!
Nice rant.
Crosswalks aren’t much of a help. Drivers still speed through them. My brother was hit a couple months ago in a crosswalk.
I was wondering if any more details have come out about this tragedy. What came of the police investigation, for example?
