Updated Oct. 15, with new information from the FCPD: A 12-year-old boy was shot multiple times on Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Lincolnia, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

Officers were dispatched around 4:20 p.m. for a report of a shooting in the 4600 block of N. Chambliss Street, said Sgt. Jacob Pearce at a media briefing at the scene of the crime. The victim’s family had reported the shooting.

Police found the victim outdoors suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the lower body. He was transported to the hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening and was released the same day.

Preliminarily, detectives determined the victim arrived at the location and exited a vehicle. As he was walking to a nearby home, he was approached from behind by the suspect. The suspect shot the victim then fled in a vehicle believed to be a white BMW.

The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, wearing a black mask. Detectives do not believe this was a random act of violence.

While detectives and officers were on the scene speaking with one of the involved individuals, Demonte Basil, 18, of Washington, D.C., they found he was unlawfully concealing a handgun. He was cited for the concealed weapon violation.

Detectives are in the area canvassing and looking for leads and shell casings. Police urge anyone who witnessed the shooting or who has video footage from surveillance cameras to call the Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 5, or submit a tip to Crime Solvers. Anonymous tipsters are eligible for a cash reward.

Police declined to provide more information about the victim, or circumstances leading to the shooting, or the additional suspects.

“We believe there is no immediate threat to the public here,” Pearce said.

  1. I will not be surprised when they come out and say it is gang related. That area has gone downhill over the past several years.

    1. It is not the area, but certain houses – mostly rentals. That house has had multiple law enforcement activities (searches, police at the door, etc) and is owned by a slum lord. I am sure it is gang/drugs/etc related as well since it appears the parties knew one another.

Until we crack down on rentals, renting to groups or not taking accountability for what happens on their properties this will happen anywhere. The county does not enforce the code.

  2. The renters and absentee slum landlords are a huge problem. I have had to call zoning and the police on my street given that one of the new rental residents was involved in a hit and run of a young mother and barely missed her 3 year old boy in Baileys Crossroads in August. The homie that hit her was caught two days later at Dicks thanks to all of our ring doorbells w cameras. But even after the incident, he kept showing up with flashy souped up cars and driving many into the rear yard. And then the renters started leasing the driveway to someone with a huge box truck.

It’s a huge burden on the homeowners that have to live next to this crap and our local political leaders can’t and won’t do anything except tell us to call the appropriate County agency to file a complaint. I won’t even begin to tell you how bad some of these front yards look that are ignored by the renters. One has weeds in the flowerbeds that are 8 feet tall.

Mason no longer matters, its increasingly becoming a rental slum district with people who are not neighborly and continue to do as much harm to the neighborhood as they can until someone pushes back; and that my fellow readers is the life of a Mason homeowner!
