- The Fairfax County police swat team stages training exercise in the vacated Lacey Center – July 20. A new elementary school is under construction on that site.
- The Fairfax County school board considers changes to the school calendar, dropping the Columbus Day holiday – Nov. 29. That didn’t happen, but the board will survey parents to gage their interest in starting school before Labor Day.
- The first article in the Neighborhood Spotlight series features the mid-century modern design of the houses in Holmes Run Acres – Aug. 2. More neighborhoods will be spotlighted in 2011.
- The Fairfax County Animal Shelter seeks donations to help care for the cats taken from the Village Drive cat hoarders – Nov. 23.
- A major new redevelopment plan, later adopted by the Board of Supervisors, is intended to guide the transformation of Bailey’s Crossroads – April 17.
- The Yummy Yummy Beep Beep food truck offered Filipino cuisine last summer on Columbia Pike – June 18. Hope it comes back.
- Police seek information on the tragic murder of Vanessa Pham, age 19, who was found stabbed to death in her car on Route 50 – June 30. The case is still unsolved.
- The Frame Factory, a long-time institution on Little River Turnpike, burned down on New Year’s Day – Jan 1. The building has still not been repaired.
