2013 FCPS Principal of the Year will lead Annandale HS

Thomas

Tim Thomas has been named principal of Annandale High School, succeeding Vincent Randazzo, who retired after serving in the position for four years.

Thomas, the principal of Westfield High School in Chantilly since 2006, starts his new job Aug. 4.

In 2013, Thomas was named Fairfax County Public Schools Principal of the Year by the Washington Post. A FCPS news release about the honor says those who Thomas called him “dynamic, enthusiastic, diplomatic, courageous, and supportive.”

“From his philosophy of educating the whole child to his involvement of parents and community members in school events,” the press release states, “Thomas has created a culture of inclusion and made Westfield a hub for the community where parents continue to volunteer long after their children have graduated.” It goes on to praise his “open-door policy” and “compassionate work ethic” and says he is easy to work with and receptive to new ideas.

Thomas began his FCPS career in 1992 as a Spanish teacher at Centreville High School. He became assistant principal at Centreville in 2000 and assistant principal at Westfield in 2002.

In a July 27 letter to the Westfield community, Thomas says “the decision to leave Westfield was extremely difficult but I felt that the opportunity to serve another school and community was in my best interest in an effort to expand the impact of my leadership in different ways.”

  1. FCPS is doing a good job recently loading up Mason District schools with talented administrators. It is the least that they can do for us.

  2. I know the name Tim Thomas isn't exotic, but I have to wonder if this is the same Tim who went to Stuart in the 80s. I'm not sure if I see any resemblance.

Tim, is that you? 🙂 Either way, congratulations and welcome to Annandale!
