A new mural brightens up a church facade

An artist with CAFE is putting the finishing touches on a mural at a church on Ravensworth Road on Oct. 18.

Community Art For Everyone (CAFE) created a mural at Ravensworth Baptist Church, at the corner of Ravensworth Road and Braddock Road in Annandale.

CAFE is an art collective aimed at bringing people together and rejuvenating communities through art.

The mural expresses the same goal shared by the church and CAFE: “We welcome everybody, whatever their heritage, race, gender, or age,” says CAFE President Hannah Joo.

The mural consists of three panels between windows. The panel on the left depicts a diverse group of people with dogwood flowers, the state flower of Virginia. The middle panel features a rainbow, and the third panel shows people building a house, symbolizing the idea of building community.

Ravensworth Baptist Church contributed the supplies for the mural. The church and CAFE collaborated on the design.

  1. This is not a church. It is a woke cult. It does not teach the whole Bible; it only teaches the parts that comport with its warped cult teachings.

    1. Bingo. Really sad to drive by this church each week. I get what they’re trying to do but like many Christians today, they’re missing the mark. The world needs the Gospel above everything else. Not this warped ‘unity above all else’ pursuit.

  2. Nothing says “we’re a church” like painting people from other faiths on your walls. Who has ever done that in the history of the world?

    1. I am sure they are FAR from the first, but hey, way to love thy neighbor!

Change your name; it doesn’t suit you at all.

  3. As pastor at RBC, working with CAFE has been a delight! We are so grateful for our shared values of sharing love, doing justice, and building community. They created a mural that shares those values and brings joy to our Annandale community.

  4. Thank God for President Trump who freed the hostages and brokered the Palestine-Israel ceasefire.

    1. Who said a word about the apparent race(s) of the subjects in the mural?! LOL 😂
You libs MUST put people in racial categories that you define. Blows my mind. Have a great weekend, everyone!!

  5. I’d like to propose an art project / slash neon “hotel” sign for that house on Heming between Axton and Leesville. The one with derelict white van parked in the no parking zone for months despite numerous calls to Police. We like the support of art projects and lovely murals. But would really prefer more focus on the basics of a well run community – code enforcement on absentee landlords who are ruining residential areas, parking tickets and towing of abandoned vehicles first… then art it up all day long.
