A spooky, fun time for Parklawn community

A large crowd, enthusiastic runners, creative Halloween costumes, a scavenger hunt for kids, friendly neighbors, hardworking volunteers, a long list of sponsors (including the Annandale Blog), and perfect fall weather all helped make the first annual Parklawn Spooky 5K/1K a huge success.

The event, organized by the Parklawn Civic Association, took place Oct. 25 in Glasgow Park.

Ethan Rissel of York, Pa., was the top winner of the 5K, completing the course through the neighborhood in 15.06. The top female winner, Jen Norris of McLean, ran the 5K in 21.44. Ella Galway of Parklawn won the Spooky 1K.

Here’s the costume contest winners: age 12 and under – Ryan Caughey as
Wolfman; adult – Lisa Schrenk and Kaelan as Safari and Croc; group/pair 12 and
under – Abigail and Victor Parker as characters from Toy Story; group/pair
adult – Kate Billingsley/Kace Boland as black cats; family – the Robinsons as scarecrows.

  1. It was a great event. Lots of folks from all over, well organized, very upbeat. Parklawn Civic did a great job.
