The center will provide supervision and activities to
seniors who can’t be left at home on their own but don’t need to be placed in an
assisted-living residence, says Daniel Choi, director of Agape Health Management Inc., which operates a similar facility in Alexandria.

Choi expects most of the clients at the Lincolnia center will
be transferring from the existing Agape Adult Day Center on General Washington
Drive, which is near the intersection of Interstate 395 and the beltway.
Most of the clients are around 80 years old – although it’s
open to people 50 and up – and have mental or physical impairments. Nearly all
of them are Korean and live with family in Fairfax County, Alexandria, or
Arlington.

The new center will offer exercise, bingo, card games,
karaoke, sing-a-longs, calligraphy, computers, and other games and craft
projects, as well as breakfast, lunch, and snacks. A nurse will be on duty, and
transportation will be provided.

According to Choi, the center will be able to handle about
180 clients a day, pending approval of an adult care license from the state.

The Agape site on Lincolnia Road was previously occupied by
the Leary private school in a house built in 1915. The Board of Supervisors approved
a zoning special exception in July 2013 allowing the Agape project to go
forward.

There’s also a small single-family house on the property,
which Choi would like to use as an office and a group home for seniors with
24-hour care.

We will be seeing more of these facilities with the increase of baby boomers becoming senior boomers. Good job with this!
