Affordable housing waitlist opens next week

The Fairfax County Department of Housing and Community Development will accept applications for the affordable housing waitlist beginning June 2 through June 8.

Affordable housing is available through the Project-Based Voucher program and the Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) Project-Based Voucher Program.

Applications can be submitted here when the waitlist opens at 8 a.m. on June 2.

The Project Based Voucher program provides rental assistance for eligible households in specific apartments.

There are openings at six properties countywide under the Project-Based Voucher program. The only one in Mason District is Hollybrooke III in Seven Corners. This property has 12 one and two-bedroom units available.

Hollybrooke III, at 3012 Patrick Henry Drive, is a 50-apartment section of the Hollybrooke Condominium complex. Apartments have large master bedrooms with walk-in closets, large living rooms, and upgraded kitchen appliances. Buildings have laundry facilities.

Through a contract with the owner of the unit, the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority pays a portion of the monthly rent, while the household pays their portion of the monthly rent based upon 32 percent to 35 percent of their adjusted gross income.

An eligible household can consist of an individual, an elderly person, a family, a person with a disability, or a person who has been displaced. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

The RAD program has 1,060 apartments and townhouses owned and operated by the Fairfax County Redevelopment and Housing Authority with support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Housing ranges from studio apartments to four-bedroom units. 

The program generally serves households with incomes up to 50 percent of median income. Tenants pay 30-35 percent of their income for rent.

RAD properties in the Annandale/Mason District area include Heritage Woods in Annandale, the Greenwood Apartments in Seven Corners, Kingsley Park in Falls Church, Rosedale Manor in Bailey’s Crossroads, and the Villages in Seven Corners.
