All Stars swimmers at Broyhill Crest

The Broyhill Crest neighborhood will be hopping Saturday, Aug. 1. Up to 2,000 swimmers and their parents will descend on the local pool for the Northern Virginia Swimming League All Star tournament. Residents are invited to watch the swim meet at Broyhill Crest Recreation Club, located at the end of Early Street, but don’t attempt to drive there.

The pool parking lot will be reserved for meet officials, and only residents and emergency vehicles will be permitted on Early Street. Oliver Avenue, Murray Lane, and Wayne Drive will have parking restricted to one side of the street. The parking lots of the Westminster School and the Latter-Day Saints and Cornerstone churches will be reserved for All Star participants.

The meet will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but people will start arriving at 7 a.m. There will be continuous traffic as people come and go throughout the day.

There is no charge to watch the meet, and there will be lots of venders selling all kinds of food and other things. If you haven’t joined the pool yet, come and check it out. There’s a membership special of $125 for the month of August. And the water’s finally warmed up enough for me–I did three laps today!
