Annandale-area Halloween events for adults, kids, and dogs
With Halloween falling on a Monday this year, a lot of holiday events will be happening a couple of days early – on Saturday.
This weekend might also be a good time to check out Annandale’s legendary ghost sighting. Many people wandering in Round Tree Park at night have been freaked out by the specter of a lady holding a baby. You’re most likely to see her when it’s foggy. There have also been reports of a haunted boys’ restroom at Annandale High School.
For those of you more into Halloween partying than ghost hunting, here are some events in the Annandale area:
For adults
Saturday at 1 p.m., there’s a special Halloween Bingo Party at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department (7128 Columbia Pike, Annandale), with prizes for the best costume. You must be 14 years old to play bingo. Prize drawings include two $2,000, two $500, and four $250 prizes.
The Sunset Grille (7250 Columbia Pike, Annandale) is having a Halloween party Saturday night. Third Rail, a rock/alternative band, starts playing at 9:30 p.m. There will be a costume contest at midnight, with $100 for first place and $50 for second place. Cover charge: $5.
Kilroy’s (5250 Port Royal Road, Springfield) is having a Halloween party Saturday, 8-11:30 p.m. There will be a costume contest with lots of prizes, a live band, drink specials, $10 goody bags to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and at 9-10 p.m., giveaways from the Heineken Girls. No cover charge.
There will be a Halloween/Tarts and Vicars party (it’s an English tradition) Saturday evening at Public House No. 7 (6315 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church). There will be a DJ, drink and food specials, and a costume contest with first, second, and third-place prize of $75, $25, and $15 respectively. No cover.
For kids/families
Falls Church High School is hosting a haunted house Friday, 7-10 p.m. and a less scary version Saturday 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $5 and $3 for kids 10 and under.
There will be a Halloween Goblin Golf and Bonfire at Lake Accotink Park Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Wear a costume and play a round of mini-golf on a haunted golf course with glow-in-the-dark golf balls, ride a spooky carousel, and have a cup of hot chocolate while listening to stories around a beach bonfire. $7 per person. The City of Falls Church’s annual Halloween Carnival, Oct. 29, at the Falls Church Community Center (223 Little Falls Street), features carnival games, moonbounce, face painting, crafts, and candy. It’s 6-7 p.m. for infants through second-graders; 7:30-8:30 p.m. for third through fifth-graders. A Creepy Creature Show is 6:30-8 p.m. for all ages. $2 per child, ages 2 and up; adults and children under 2 are free.
The Creative Cauldron at ArtSpace Falls Church (410 Maple Ave.) is showing the musical, “Nevermore,” based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe, through Oct. 30. Friday 8 p.m., Saturday 2 and 8 p.m., and Sunday 4 p.m. Tickets are $25; $22 for students and seniors. The minimum age is 10.
Not sure if this is Halloween related, but there’s a free Fall Festival at Capital Baptist Church (3504 Gallows Road, Annandale), with games, rides, inflatables, and food on Saturday, 12-4 p.m.
For dogs
Bring your dog to the Howloween Dog Costume Contest and Boneyard Hunt at Lake Accotink Park Saturday, 2-4 p.m. Dogs need to be on leashes. $6 per dog. Call 703/569-0285 to register.

Chipotle’s Annual Boorito takes place on Halloween. Wear a costume inspired by the family farm to any Chipotle Mexican Grill on Oct. 31 between 6 p.m. and closing, and get a burrito, order of tacos, salad, or bowl for $2, with the proceeds (up to $1 million) benefiting the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation and Farm Aid. (The two Chipotles closest to Annandale are at the Seven Corners Shopping Center and 8191 Strawberry Lane, Merrifield.) Take a picture of yourself in costume at Chipotle and submit it online to Chipotle’s costume contest. The grand prize is $2,500.
