The Annandale Boys & Girls Club has donated $70,000 to Annandale High School’s campaign to bring a synthetic turf field to the school’s Bolding Stadium.
“This $70,000 donation will ensure AHS meets the minimum commitment for Fairfax County to bring turf to Annandale,” says Julie Germain Thompson of ABGC. “We’re proud of our long and ongoing relationship with Annandale High School. Many of our youth athletes go on to become Annandale Atoms, contributing to their school, their teams, and our community and we’re delighted to play a role in the evolution of so many young people.”
Before this donation, the AHS community was struggling to raise the required $100,000 needed.
A turf field will benefit AHS in many ways, including annual savings of $39,000 in reduced maintenance costs, a significant reduction in injuries, less time lost traveling to other fields for practice, less downtime due to bad weather or maintenance of grass fields, and less runoff pollution caused by fertilizers and pesticides.
AHS teams would no longer have to play home games at other schools and would have an opportunity to earn revenue by hosting playoff and championship games. The fields would be used by multiple AHS sports teams, marching band, and PE classes and also community recreation leagues.
