Annandale businesses will host temporary mini-art galleries

The Lighthouse Tofu restaurant is one of the local businesses participating in Art in Daily Spaces.

“Art in Daily Spaces,” a groundbreaking exhibit that transforms retail and other spaces in Annandale into mini-art galleries, will run from April 13-May 12.

Ten artists will display their works across seven locations along Columbia Pike. The project embraces the theme of Pop Art, a movement that incorporates mass-produced objects from popular culture.

Community residents are invited to the opening reception April 13, 6-8 p.m., at the Mason Government Center, featuring a presentation with the artists.

The project was organized by Community Art For Everyone (CAFE) and sponsored by ArtsFairfax.

It’s easy to visit all of those locations, except the government center, in one short walk. The art can be seen during regular business hours.

Art in Daily Spaces is central to CAFE’s mission to establish partnerships with local retailers and small business owners. “Through close collaboration, we engage with local residents to effectively realize community art initiatives,” the organization states.

“Our long-term vision includes organizing an annual gallery project in collaboration with these businesses with the goal of expanding participation from both artists and retailers, thus fortifying the art community in the region,” the CAFE says. “Together, we endeavor to transform Annandale into a dynamic ‘placemaking’ destination, fostering creativity and community engagement.”
