Annandale celebrates National Night Out

People watch the entertainment at a National Night Out event in Annandale.

The National Night Out celebration at the Annandale Shopping Center on Columbia Pike on Aug. 4 drew crowds of people for food, raffle prizes, entertainment, and a chance to learn about fire safety from the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department.

The event, hosted by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, featured giveaways from local businesses, free food from Jet’s Pizza, Pupusas Express, and sweetFrog, balloon animals, games, face painting, a demonstration by Hapmudo Martial Arts, and entertainment from International Dance and the School of Rock.

The Annandale Fire Department brought Sparky the fire dog.

The fire department, Cue Club, George Mason Regional Library, and Hapmudo contributed raffle prizes.

This was one of several neighborhood-based National Night Out events held in Mason District last night.

Balloon accessories are a big hit.

National Night Out is a national campaign that promotes neighborhood events – such as cookouts, ice cream socials, and block parties – on the first Tuesday in August. The gatherings are aimed at promoting positive relationships between the police and residents, educating the public about crime prevention and safety, and helping neighbors get to know one another.
