Annandale food pantry needs donations

The ACCA food pantry – before it started running out of food.

The food pantry operated by the Annandale Christian Community for Action is quickly running out of non-perishable food items and is asking the community for donations.

Since the coronavirus pandemic swept the area – and a growing number of people are out of work requests for assistance have increased substantially, ACCA reports.

ACCA is asking the public to drop off items at the food pantry Monday to Friday, 1-5 p.m. The pantry is in a classroom trailer adjacent to the ACCA Child Development Center at 7200 Columbia Pike in Annandale.

Items most in need include canned tuna and other meats, canned vegetables and fruits, soup, cereal, spaghetti sauce, dried pasta, rice, dried beans, flour, Maseca brand corn flour, crackers, peanut butter, jellies and jams, sugar, syrup, soap, detergent, and toilet paper.

Monetary donations are welcome, too. ACCA volunteers use donated money to purchase milk, meat, eggs, butter, cheese, and fresh vegetables and fruit.

ACCA is a coalition of local churches that works with Fairfax County Department of Family Services to assist those in need. The food pantry serves people of all religions and races in the Annandale, Falls Church, and Bailey’s Crossroads areas.

Instead of having people come to the pantry to pick up food, ACCA volunteers deliver food directly to individuals and families that have been referred by local churches and others. The recipients are vetted by the Family Services Department.

Donate online or mail a check to ACCA Food Pantry, 7200 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003. Make the check payable to ACCA Food Pantry and write “food pantry” in the memo line.  ACCA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and donations are tax deductible.
