Winterberry Holly [Mary Anne Borge]

Every year, the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District sells a collection of bare-root native seedlings. This year’s sale starts March 1 at 10 a.m.

The 2022 seedling sale features shrubs and small trees that attract bees and produce colorful flowers and fruits.
Seedlings packages must be purchased in advance online.

The Tree-Mendous Flowers package includes six seedlings for $15: two American Hornbeam, two Canadian Serviceberry, and two Winterberry Holly.

The Un-Bee-Lievable Blooms package, also $15, includes two Eastern Redbud, two Indigo Bush, and two two Silky Willow seedlings.

Each package of six seedlings bundled together is typically one to three feet long and four to six inches wide.

They can be picked up April 1, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and April 2, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club, 3516 Sleepy Hollow Road, Falls Church.

Any seedlings not picked up will be donated to a reforestation project in Fairfax County.
