The winner was Rob Danburg. He wasn’t at the car show, but Bailey’s Rotary Club President Harry Henderson left him a voice message with the good news. The winning ticket was sold by Rotarian Bob Lydick July 12 at Fairfax Corners.
This was the 29th year for the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club classic Mustang fundraiser. Ticket sales for this year’s Mustang reached more than $120,000 with $4,000 sold on Saturday. During the car show, Henderson presented a check for $5,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Too bad more than half of that $5k will go to admin costs. Seems like a lot of effort to raise $2,100 for wounded warriors.

Actually, the effort was over 6 months to raise $120k and I am sure that the Wounded Warrior Project appreciated the 5k portion they received. I am also told that the Fairfax County Public Schools will receive nearly $20k from this, the Fire and Police Departments over $4k from this effort, and 28 other charities will also receive funding from the proceeds of this raffle. It is the motto of Rotary International to provide "Service Above Self" so the effort is rather meaningless when you think of the very good work being done with the money raised here. Moreover, the Bailey's Crossroads Rotary Club will put in whatever effort we need to help raise funds for this community to prosper and help those that cannot help themselves. As the person handing the check in the picture above, I remain very proud of my fellow Rotarians for the hard work and dedication of this annual Mustang raffle. We want to thank the Annandale Blog for their efforts to keep the community informed of both the Raffle itself and the result of the funds raised. Thank you Ellie!
So Harry, how does one join the Rotary Club? Please tell us more.
