Beanetics’ new owners are making the Annandale coffee shop more inviting
The new owners of Beanetics Coffee Roasters, Annandale residents Nicole and Jason Llorenz, have brightened up the shop and are adding new menu items.
Beanetics was opened 12 years ago at 7028 Columbia Pike in Annandale by David and Amy Starr as a family-owned small-batch coffee roaster. The Llorenzes are continuing that legacy.
“We’re rethinking how people can come in and have a really wonderful and inviting space to experience a coffee roaster that is serving coffee where it’s being created,” Jason says.
Nicole and Jason redecorated the shop with a yellow and orange color scheme and a new brighter floor. They added a reading nook and a changing table in the bathroom.
The Llorenzes are continuing to showcase local artists. The current display features photographs of birds. Future plans call for poetry slams and other events.
Along with coffee, the shop sells cold fruity summer drinks and smoothies, scones, bagels, Rice Krispie treats, and coffee cakes. Savory dishes will be added in the fall.
One of the Llorenzes’ junior partners, Trinh Banks of Annandale, helped redesign the space and is providing gluten-free items. Banks is the founder of Demi Goddess Creates LLC. The other junior partner is Kevin Forster, president of Good Force Finance in Falls Church.
Nicole and Jason are continuing to serve single-origin coffee, including Jamaican Blue Mountain, Bali Blue Moon, and coffee from Kenya, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Timor, Brazil, Sumatra, and Ethiopia.
They are also retaining Beanetics’ complex proprietary blends called Wooly Mammoth, Neanderthal, and Atomic Express, which reflect the shop’s theme, “the science and art of better coffee.”
It’s all about “science, coffee, and the evolution of man,” Jason says. “There’s a connection between man standing up, thinking, and drinking coffee.”
To celebrate the reopening, Beanetics is offering a 20 percent discount on any item to customers who read about the shop in Annandale Today and say “Annandale20.”
Teachers, students, first responders, and Amazon and Uber drivers get a 15 percent discount.
Both Jason and Nicole are lawyers and are “huge fans of Beanetics,” Jason says. He has a background in entrepreneurship, so buying the shop “felt like the right thing to do.”
I know it’s a lot of work, but if the roasting equipment can be moved to the rear, and have an unobstructed view of the front w/ seating, would help make it a lot more inviting and a better place to hang out!
Yeah its not a brewery, move the tanks to create space. No other coffee shop I have ever been to has this taking up valuable gathering and table space.
Too bad the prior staff is no longer there. The welcoming and friendliness of the baristas currently needs improvement. I should not be told that my drink I want to order is just not popular. Lazy barista just didn’t want to make it. Prior staff took pride and love making my drink.
Wonderful local business with amazing customer service- and the product is great too. Very proud to have this place in our community!
The updated snacks and seating area makes this a place to sit and sip awhile- the ‘Lucy’ roasted beans are amazing, too. Congrats to the new owners!
I’ve seen this place many times but it closes so early!I wish they’d explore staying open late on Friday or Saturday.
A very cute neighborhood coffee shop! If you’re looking for a dark roast, my favorite is their Ethiopian Yirgacheffe! And knowing that the beans were roasted in your own zip code makes it extra special.
My frappe was just amazing. Just enough Carmel through every sip. First sip it was a long Mmmmm. Finished it before I got back to Arlington.
