Beware of Dominion scams

Representatives from Dominion Power are not calling customers and threatening to shut off their power if they don’t pay up immediately. If you get one of these calls, it’s a scam, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

These scams have been going on for a while and resurfaced in Fairfax County in recent weeks. In one  example cited by FCPD, the owner of a business in Springfield received a phone call advising her that her electric bill was overdue and demanded that she go to a CVS or 7-Eleven to purchase a Green Dot card in the amount of $499.98, the amount of her allegedly overdue bill. The victim verified with Dominion that her payments were current.
