Beyer wins Democratic Primary
Rep. Don Beyer cruised to an easy victory June 21 in the Democratic Primary in the 8th Congressional District.
Unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections show Beyer getting 77.4 percent of the vote and Victoria Virasingh with 22.6 percent.
In the parts of Fairfax County in the 8th District (including most of Annandale and Bailey’s Crossroads) Beyer got 82.8 percent of the vote. The 8th District also includes parts of Arlington County and Alexandria City.
Beyer will face Republican Kara Lipsman on Election Day in November.
“I am grateful to voters in Northern Virginia for again making me their Democratic nominee to represent Virginia’s 8th District,” Beyer stated on Twitter. “Their trust in me is humbling, and I will continue to do all I can to earn it.” He thanks Virasingh “for her spirited challenge and for her commitment to progressive ideals we both share.”
“Here in our region and across the country,” Beyer said, “we face a stark contrast between those who believe in building a strong and equitable economy, protecting our democracy, confronting the threat of climate change, making health care and housing more affordable, protecting Americans from gun violence, and protecting a woman’s right to choose, and those who do not.”
“This is a challenging moment for the Democratic Party,” he continued,“ and I look forward to throwing myself into that fight and making the case for equality, shared prosperity, and progress.”
I like Don. Good man overall, but I’m not sure he’s going to enjoy being in the minority come next January.
