Bonchon rises from the ashes

Bonchon Chicken is moving into this vacant space.

A year and a half after the Bonchon Chicken restaurant on Columbia Pike in Annandale was destroyed in a fire, the restaurant is planning to reopen in a new location nearby.

It will be located in the vacant storefront formerly occupied by 92 Chicken at 7133-B Columbia Pike in the shopping center anchored by Giant.

Bonchon specializes in Korean fried chicken. The menu also includes bulgogi, japchae (glass noodles with vegetables and bulgogi), bibimbap, fried rice, fries, Korean tacos, and other items.

According to a permit application submitted to Fairfax County, the new Bon Chon would be much smaller than the old one, with seating for just 22 people. It would be open daily, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

Bonchon opened at 7215 Columbia Pike, facing the Giant parking lot, in 2014. A huge fire in March 2023 heavily destroyed the building and three other adjacent businesses. The buildings were demolished in April 2024.

    1. Dusty, depressed, and now host to a homeless encampment. The balcony above the defunct Thai place has squatters.

  1. Surprised it is coming back, the old one was really going downhill and I never saw anyone eat inside. I ordered Parmesan parsley fries and they didn’t have any parm or parsley and the fries were soggy and old. I think 92Chicken was better than Bon Chon too.
