Boy Scout Troop 150 invites the community to celebrate its 90th anniversary May 5 with a vintage car show and a demonstration featuring a Model T Ford.
The event is May 5, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale.
The 90th anniversary celebration will include a Court of Honor Ceremony, and the church Men’s Club will serve burgers and franks.
The Northern Virginia Chapter of the Early Ford V-8 Club of America will bring about six to eight vintage cars, and the Nation’s Capital Model T. Ford Club will show how a Model T can be rebuilt in less than 25 minutes.
Troop 150 is the oldest continuously active Boy Scout troop in Northern Virginia. It has about 40 registered scouts. The troop goes camping nearly every month, attends a week-long camp at Goshen, Va., and participates in the annual District Jamboree, says Troop Vice Chair Phil Hartley. Activities on camping trips include snow skiing, whitewater rafting, caving, and campouts at historically significant locations.
“We are committed to community service, as well,” Hartley says. The troop’s food drive last November – to stock the Annandale Christian Community for Action’s food pantry – collected 7,790 pounds of food, more than any other troop in the district. Eagle Scout service projects have benefitted local schools, parks, and the Fort Belvoir Wounded Warrior Program.
Troop 150 has consistently been recognized with the Journey to Excellence–Gold Award, the highest achievement award in the Boy Scouts.
