Mason Police District has a new commander

The Mason Police Station in the Mason Government Center.

Capt. Patrick Brusch is the new commander of the Mason Police District. He was most recently commander of the Fairfax County Police Department’s violent crimes division.

Lt. Christopher Mattus of the Mason station was promoted to assistant commander.

Brusch replaced Capt. Loriann LaBarca, who served as Mason Police District commander for less than a year. She has been reassigned to the organized crime and narcotics division.

Noting that Mason is one of the busiest police stations in Fairfax County, Brusch says his priorities include “maintaining a safe community for everyone.”

“It’s a very diverse community in a highly populated urban area with a lot of foot traffic, bikes and cars,” he says. “We have good relationships with the community; I want to bolster those relationships.”

Brusch urges community members to come forward when they see something suspicious.

Brusch has held a variety of positions during his nearly 20 years with the Fairfax County Police Department, serving with the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau, Internal Affairs Bureau, Major Crimes Bureau, and the child exploitation unit.

He was a detective with the narcotics division and a patrol officer and member of the bike team at the Franconia Police Station. He was the bike team supervisor at the Mason Police Station for about five months in 2018.

  1. Wish we could have another closer PD for the other side of Little River Turnpike, or if they could expand this station. It’s frustrating to have a station so close but have to wait for police to come from 13 miles away in Franconia for our needs.
