Capt. Brooke Wright has been named the new commander of the Mason Police District.
Wright had been an assistant commander at the station since 2015 and has served as a lieutenant with the Fairfax County Police Department for nearly 19 years. She started working for the FCPD as a dispatcher in 1998. Before that she was an airman in the U.S. Air Force, 1993-97.
“I’m excited to be here,” says Wright, who lives in Annandale. “Community engagement is my highest priority. I really want to create an approachable environment.”
As the weather gets warmer, Wright expects the police will have more calls for stolen landscaping equipment and similar crimes, along with pedestrian accidents. She plans to talk to VDOT about ways to improve pedestrian safety.
The Mason station has seven officers in training who have recently graduated from the Police Academy. FCPD is increasing staff levels in anticipation of the new South County police station, which is expected to open in about five years. When that happens, the boundaries will be adjusted for all the existing police districts.
Wright says the Mason police station is a great place for training new officers because so many people live in the district, and “there are lots of opportunities for officers to engage with people.”
The former commander of the Mason Station, Capt. Thomas Rogers, has been assigned to head the FCPD Resource Management Bureau, which handles vehicle fleet maintenance and equipment purchasing.
Congratulations Captain Wright!!!
and Best Regards, Roe Panella
Congratulations are definitely in order. Thank you for attending the Broyhill Crest Citizens Association Meeting and sharing your knowledge and expertise. I do hope that your posts to Nextdoor will continue (or at least be assigned to another member of the force.
