Car stolen, child abducted

UPDATED: Someone stole a car at 6242 Little River Turnpike at Landmark Plaza yesterday with a 5-year-old girl inside, the Fairfax County Police Department reports. She was subsequently found and is back with her family.

The child’s stepfather had left the car running in the parking lot while he went inside a restaurant to pick up food. When he came out, the car and child were gone.

FCPD deployed the helicopter, saturated the area with detectives, and began the Amber Alert process.

Two D.C. residents found the child alone at 13th and E streets NW shortly after 7 p.m. FCPD worked with the Metropolitan Police Department to reunite the child with her parents.

Detectives are still searching for the stolen 2012 gray Honda Accord with Maryland plates 94667CJ. The suspect is described as a black male with dark curly hair.

Anyone with information should call the FCPS Major Crimes Bureau, 703-246-7800, or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Solvers.

    1. Descano says crime is going down though…. surely you must be mistaken…

      /sarcasm

seriously… it’s the carjackings, shootings, and then shit like this that makes absolutely NO ONE feel safe, and makes statements like descano’s so absolutely out of touch. The guy has done some good IMO, but with him spouting that “crime is down” garbage, I get the sense we need someone else as prosecutor next term.

      1. Who leaves a car running with a child inside? Jail for all of them. Unbelievable.

I’ve lived nearby Landmark Plaza for over 10 years. It has always been a little rough, but I’ve never felt critically unsafe. We’ve had several district attorneys in that time.

I’d for darn sure never leave my car running in the parking lot there, and I watch my purse and valuables closely.

        1. Well, I’ve lived in the area (Lincolnia/LRT) since 1980 and landmark has become exponentially more crime ridden in the past few years.

          1. It absolutely has, ron. I lived there for 13+ years and was assaulted and harassed multiple times just walking to 7-eleven over the years. After the first assault, the police told me the area had high crime and not to be out alone, even during the day, which is when I was assaulted. Cars had their WHEELS stolen, there were always break-ins and busted windows. Finally moved away last year…

          1. The only victim here is the 5 year old child. No excuses for the idiotic and neglectful stepparent. So many things can go awry leaving a 5 year old unattended in a running vehicle.

My thoughts go out to the young girl.

  1. Can we redevelop Landmark Plaza and that Lincolnia intersection already? A refresh might get rid of all the crime

    1. Be honest, get rid of all the crap. With the new development at the old Landmark Mall, redevelopment on periphery may be imminent. Who the heck would buy a new townhouse or condo with all the crime that has escalated in the area as the new normal? Guess the new hospital’s ER will be quite busy!
