Cemetery for indigents planned for Lincolnia Road

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will consider a proposal this evening to develop a cemetery for indigents in Lincolnia.
The Planning Commission on March 8 unanimously approved an application for the cemetery project from the Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES). At this point, however, a deal to purchase the 1.14-acre site from the owner of the property, listed as Eastwood Properties of Fairfax, has not been finalized.
The site, at 6271 Lincolnia Road, is bordered by the Charleston Square townhouse community and two single-family homes. At the rear, there is a wooded area, and beyond that, garden apartments.
The property is already being used as the St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery. According to the DPWES application, the church building was destroyed in the 1940s. There are 74 grave markers, the oldest from 1903 and the most recent from 2007.
The proposal calls for the site be used for “burials of unclaimed persons for burials of persons with families that do not have the means to provide burial.” The site would also be “suitable to provide burial space for mass-casualty events, if necessary.”
The proposal calls for about 800 grave sites plus a columbarium for the storing of burial urns. It expects there would be 10 to 15 burials a year, which would meet the county’s needs for burials for the next 50 years or more. Under the proposal, the existing cemetery would remain, and people who have family plots there would still be able to use them.
There would be three to eight parking spaces. DPWES does not expect the proposal will lead to increased traffic in the area, because “visitation is expected to be minimal.” There is no real opposition to the cemetery. The land is zoned R-2 residential, which allows two houses per acre.
The application says a new burial site for indigents is needed because the county’s Jermantown Cemetery has reached its capacity.

At least this lot should remain peaceful and quiet. A cemetery is way better than more McMansions.
I would love for my deceased husband and I to be interned here but cannot find who a contact is for arrangements.
