A community health fair on Saturday, May 16, is bringing resources and hands-on experiences focusing on how residents can get stronger, live longer, and stay connected.

The Stronger Together Health Fair will be at the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department’s social hall, at 7128 Columbia Pike, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Connection Wellness Center. There is no charge to attend.

“The event will bring a fresh approach to community health – especially for adults 50 and older who want to stay active, mobile, and independent for years to come,” says Rachel Martin, owner of the Connection Wellness Center at 4113 John Marr Drive in Annandale.

“Unlike typical events where attendees leave with brochures and business cards, Stronger Together is built around one core idea: giving people real answers and a clear next step,” Martin says.

Participants will be able to get a personalized Longevity Assessment Scorecard, evaluating key areas like strength, balance, and mobility – factors that play a critical role in long-term health and independence. The assessment will offer a guide on what to focus on next.

Hands-on experiences

The event will feature a wide range of interactive services, including:

  • Free chair massages, massage gun sessions, and stretch therapy.
  • Chiropractic adjustments and physical therapy screenings.
  • Advanced movement assessments using motion analysis technology.
  • An opportunity to receive a DEXA scan for deeper insight into body composition and bone health.

Café Hive, a new coffee shop next to Flavor Hive, will offer coffee, tea, breakfast items, and desserts made with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.

Health-focused businesses

Stronger Together also highlights a diverse group of local businesses and organizations committed to improving health and well-being, including the following:

  • MovementX – physical therapy delivered at a clinic, at home, and online.
  • Courtney Lapenta – chair massages, a cognitive-focused art workshop, and a short dance lesson.
  • Empower Performance Nutrition – guidance on what to eat from a licensed nutritionist.
  • Patient First – education on blood pressure and access to affordable care, including options for those without insurance.
  • Spinal Health Group – chiropractic care aimed at improving alignment, reducing pain, and supporting long-term spinal health.
  • Learn PT Online – a program led by Dr. Craig Peppers offers internship opportunities for high school students and adults seeking experience or certification in health-related fields.

Connection

“At its core, Stronger Together is about more than fitness or healthcare. It’s about building a healthier, more connected community,” Martin says.

She encourages attendees to bring a friend, a spouse, or a neighbor – and come ready to learn, experience, and engage.

Martin hopes the health fair will become an annual event.
