County seeks youths for part-time jobs

Neighborhood and Community Services staff promote their programs at community events.

The Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS) is launching a Work Student Program for youths looking to build their skills and jump into real-world experiences by working for the county.

The program, to begin in January, is aimed at high school students ages 16 and up, college students, and young adults.

Participants in the Work Student Program can work in paid positions up to 900 part-time hours in 2026 at various NCS sites.

Under the guidance of staff from the assigned department, students will complete entry-level tasks that give them hands-on experience and career exploration opportunities, along with support from a mentor.

Students will be matched with programs that best fit their resume and college major (if applicable).

There are three classifications for Work Student positions, each with varying responsibilities and pay scales. Learn more here.

Applicants should submit a resume to this address: [email protected].
