County to begin Gallows Road study

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation is preparing to explore multimodal transportation on Gallows Road and will form a stakeholder group to provide community input.

The Gallows Road study area extends from Tysons to Annandale.

FCDOT will carry out an outreach process with a group representing community associations, HOAs, schools, faith communities, and other stakeholders, Fairfax County Supervisor Dalia Palchik (Providence) reports in her newsletter.

The Gallows Road study will evaluate innovative and evolving technologies to enhance mobility and accessibility. The study will consider locations for a potential pedestrian bridge over the beltway in the Merrifield area.

“While the stakeholder group will be limited with a goal of balancing geographic representation around Gallows, all meetings will be public with opportunities for comment,” Palchik states.

Organizations interested in being a part of the Gallows Road stakeholder group should contact [email protected].

The Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling is looking for a bicyclist with experience biking on Gallows Road to be part of the group. Contact [email protected] .

  1. Ha! Anyone who bikes on Gallows may not be alive! Or if they are – they are absolutely insane. Perhaps figure out how to connect the bike trail network better so a clear ring and spoke system is in place. That means multiple safe protected overpasses of route 50.

  2. We should have something like the purple line in MoCo -PG but not that craziness and delays and budget overruns. Need to study multiple options including BRT & Light Rail options. It should go all the way down to Springfield Town Center.
