Creative Aging Festival features 100+ events in May
Seniors stuck in a rut can learn a new skill, create art, try a new dance move, and have fun during the month-long Creative Aging Festival beginning May 1.
The festival, hosted by Fairfax County, the Arts Council of Fairfax County, and AARP Virginia, includes more than 100 classes, performances, and events – most of them free – throughout Fairfax County, Arlington County, and the City of Alexandria.
Programs include art exhibits, musical performances, poetry readings, lectures, wellness workshops, and classes in watercolor, knitting, clogging, tap, piano, photography, yoga, tai chi, and much more.
Many sessions are in the Mason District. Here are just a few: a music therapy workshop at the Lincolnia Senior Center on May 6; a woodcarving class at the Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads is offered several times beginning May 7; line dance for the active dancer at the Bailey’s Senior Center beginning May 5; quilting at the Bailey’s Senior Center beginning May 7; and a craft workshop on making a topiary in a teacup at Green Spring Gardens on May 2.
