DC Steakholders closed

DC Steakholders had a tough time getting through the pandemic. [DC Steakholders]

The DC Steakholders restaurant on Arlington Boulevard in Falls Church has closed permanently.

The owners, Usman and Lilly Bhatti, posted a message on the restaurant’s website with this explanation: “While it was an exceedingly difficult time due to Covid-19, thankfully DC Steakholders maintained operations and support for our staff as much as possible. Unfortunately, inflation, staffing shortages, and rising food costs have taken a toll on our business.”

The DC Steakholders food trucks and catering business are still operating.

The Bhatti’s opened the restaurant in April 2019 in the space formerly occupied by the FDB Eatery.

In addition to burgers and other basics, DC Steakholders served custard made from the same recipe used by a long-gone ice cream stand established on the corner of Arlington Boulevard and Annandale Road in the 1950s.

  1. Best wishes to the owners.

I never went in due to the drug dealing and homeless out front and around the back by the dumpsters. Seemed like someone (not a patron) was always looming.

  2. There’s a sign up that says some sort of chicken place is going in. It would be great if they kept selling frozen custard. DC Steakholder’s cheesesteaks weren’t so great, but I stopped for custard throughout the pandemic.

  3. My daddy loved the Frozen Dairy Bar and often took my siblings and I there as children. Later, when my children and I moved in with them, they too got to experience frozen custard at the Frozen Dairy Bar. My husband and I both grew up in Arlington and had fond memories of this place. It is so nostalgic to see pictures of the original Frozen Dairy Bar and pictures of how it changed over the years. I really appreciate the efforts of so many to bring it back. They never should have torn it down, but the City or County should have brought the building up to code and continued selling the frozen custard. It was a special bit of history that we all loved. I hope someone with money rebuilds the original version of the Frozen Fairy Bar for all generations to enjoy.
