December doings with Mason Arts

By James Albright, chair of the Mason Arts Advisory Council
December is packed with local arts events, including the following:
- Dec. 5-7 – BalletNova of Bailey’s Crossroads presents the Nutcracker, Kenmore Middle School, 200 S. Carlin Springs Road, Arlington, 1 p.m., plus a 5 p.m. show on Saturday.
- Dec. 6 – Lake Barcroft Art Show and Sale, hosted by the Lake Barcroft Art League, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The exhibition features works by 19 artists at four locations: 6108 Beachway Drive, 3510 Wentworth Drive, 3613 Ridgeway Terrace, and 3616 Ridgeway Terrace. This event is well worth the short journey to see some wonderful work and get a sense of the full nature of the arts around the lake.
- Dec. 13 – The last day of MosaicArts’ “Imagining Together” exhibit at the PARC Gallery, 8508 Leesburg Pike, Tysons, noon-6 p.m.
- Dec. 13 – Annual holiday concert by Sopranessence, “Haul Out the Holly,” United Baptist Church, 7100 Columbia Pike, Annandale, 3 p.m. Hope to see you there; this show should be wonderful.
- Dec. 18 – Mason Arts Council meeting, most likely at the Mason Government Center.
- Dec. 19 – Mason Night at Providence Players, “A Sherlock Carol,” James Lee Community Center, 2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church. Join a group of local residents, but get tickets soon because they are selling out.
- Until Dec. 31 – Lake Barcroft artists David Goldstein and Alan Ladwig are showing their artworks at the Jim Scott Center, 3001 Vaden Drive, Fairfax. Although this venue is in the Providence District, we are all part of Fairfax County, so be sure to catch their fascinating creations.
My goal is to make it to all of these events, because I am happiest supporting my friends and my community.
There are many more exhibits and holiday events, so if I missed yours, please add it in a comment.
The 2026 Mason District Art Festival is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 17. That’s after Indigenous Peoples Day and the Fire Department’s Open House on Oct. 11 and before the Annandale Parade on the 24th. It’s a tight squeeze on the calendar, but I am hoping this date will work out for us.
