Donations sought for Rotary fundraiser to support Stuart Pyramid Fair

The 2015 Stuart Pyramid Fair drew large crowds.

The Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club (BXRC) Foundation is seeking donors for its online auction to benefit the 2016 Stuart Pyramid Resource Fair.

One hundred percent of  the proceeds from the auction will be used to purchase school supplies for students in Stuart High School and the elementary and middle schools that feed into Stuart. To donate an auction item or make a cash contribution, visit the foundation’s page on the Bidding for Good website.

The second annual Stuart Pyramid Resource Fair will be Aug. 9.

More than 4,700 people attended the 2015 fair. Approximately 75 percent of the supplies distributed were provided as part of a large, one-time anonymous donation to Fairfax County Public Schools, and the rest were donated by community members and local businesses, says Kate Walter, Stuart PTA president co-chair of the BXRC Stuart Fair Committee.

The funds from the anonymous donation have been depleted, so the BXRC Foundation needs to raise the full $25,000 for school supplies to be distributed at the fair in August, Walter says.

The goal of the Resource Fair is to ensure that when students show up for the 2016-17 school year, all of them are prepared for school and excited to learn. In addition to school supplies, the fair provides free haircuts, medical assessments (vision, hearing, and dental), and on-site access to more than 55 governmental and nonprofit organizations offering services to the community.

“Not only does this fair support our families, it improves community outreach and reduces the time demands on our school administrators, counselors, and social service providers the first few weeks of school,” Walter says. “Taken together, these benefits allow for a more efficient launch to the school year.”

The Stuart Pyramid Fair benefits students in eight FCPS schools: Stuart High School; Glasgow Middle School; and Belvedere, Bailey’s, Beech Tree, Sleepy Hollow, Parklawn, and Glen Forest elementary schools.

The Bidding for Good auction service the foundation is using reaches approximately 4,500 national consumers who seek products and services from companies with a socially conscious product or business model. People who use the site to donate items can directly link their own website to their auction item. Donations are tax deductible.
