Early voting under way for June 11 Democratic primary

Fairfax County is holding a
Democratic primary election for local and state offices on
Tuesday, June 11
.
Voters in the Annandale/Mason
District could see these candidates on the ballot (*indicates incumbent), depending where you live:
 
  • Fairfax County of Board of
    Supervisors chair – Tim Chapman, Ryan McElveen, Jeff McKay, Alicia Plerhoples.
  • Board of Supervisors member
    for the Braddock District – Irma Corado and James Walkinshaw.  

  • Fairfax commonwealth’s
    attorney – Steve Descano and Raymond Morrogh (*).
  • Virginia Senate: 35th District – Dick Saslaw (*), Yasmine Taeb, and Karen Torrent.
  • Virginia House of Delegates, 38th District – Andres Jimenez and Kaye Kory (*).
  • Virginia House of Delegates,
    49th District – Alfonso Lopez (*) and JD Spain.
While
only Democratic candidates will be the ballot, any registered voter can vote on
June 11. Virginia holds open primaries, and voters don’t register by party.
There
is no Republican primary, as the Republicans have chosen another method to
select candidates.
Voting on June 11 will take
place 6 a.m.-7 p.m. at all the regular polling places. Because some poll locations have changed since the
November 2018 general election, voters should confirm their polling place
online through the Virginia Department of Elections. Voters must bring an acceptable photo ID.
In-person absentee voting is
available until 5 p.m. until June 8. Currently, the only place to vote absentee in-person
is the Fairfax County Government Center, Conference Rooms 2 & 3, 12000 Government
Center Parkway, Fairfax, during these times:
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays,
    and Fridays: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Thursdays: 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturdays, June 1 and June 8:
    9 a.m.-5 p.m.
On
June 8 only, 10 extra absentee voting
locations 
will be open, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., including
the Mason District Government Center on Columbia Pike.
The
deadline to request an absentee ballot by mail is 5 p.m. on June 4. Absentee
ballots must be turned into the Office of Elections by 7 p.m. on June 11.
