Early voting underway for Virginia Primary

All eyes might be on New Hampshire, but early voting is now underway for the March 5 Presidential Primary in Virginia.

Three locations are open for early voting on weekdays:

  • Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway, Fairfax, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • North County Government Center, Reston, 1-7 p.m.
  • Mount Vernon Government Center, Alexandria, 1-7 p.m.

Additional early voting locations – including the Mason Government Center and Thomas Jefferson Library – will be open Feb. 24-March 2.

In Virginia, voters do not register by political party. Any registered voter can choose to vote in the Republican or Democratic primary, not both. Voters can vote at any early voting site.

The ballots will have some unfamiliar names and former candidates who have dropped out of the race.

The Democratic ballot lists President Joe Biden; Marianne Williamson, an author and spiritual thought leader; and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.)

The Republican ballot lists Nikki Haley; Donald Trump; and Ryan Binkley, a businessman and church leader; along with three others who ended their candidacy: Chris Christie, Ron DeSantis, and Vivek Ramaswamy.

  1. Go Vote! Everyone eligible and registered should vote. It’s a privilege that most of humanity doesn’t get, and it’s also a duty given how many fellow citizens have died to ensure we have that right.

  2. Why has early voting begun in VA. The primary is more than a month away. It’s ridiculous and I think it’s opens things up to fraud. I believe in an Election Day. But if u wanna open it up for convenience, 2 weeks prior seems more than sufficient.

    1. The early voting is safe and secure as it is at three county government locations. This is helpful for those in the area that have significant travel for work or other conflicts with Election Day. Fraud is highly unlikely in this situation. I personally take my children with me to vote to teach the importance of it.

    2. Stop repeating the election fraud nonsense, you are just lapping up what has been proven to be false over and over and over. Repeating something does not make it true, be better.

  3. I thought Republican Candidates were chosen in Virginia By conventions open only to Republican Party members. When did the Republicans change This?
